James Marsters talks filming Marvel’s Runaways: "I can't spot a weak link"

Marvel's Runaways is well into filming so when I sat down with James Marsters to talk about Buffy's 20th anniversary, I couldn't help but ask how things were going with the new Hulu show. Naturally, he's sworn to secrecy, but Marsters is very positive about how things are going and heaped praise of his co-stars.

"It’s a huge cast and everyone’s nice! Everyone’s really good at acting.” He told me. “There’s fifteen to seventeen of us, and I can’t spot a weak link, I’m really excited to see how it goes forward.”

Hulu is making the Marvel-inspired series with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and it will follow six young teenagers who find out that their parents - one of which is Marsters - are a group of supervillains called The Pride.

Marsters added: “I’m having a great time filming it; the director is fabulous and the actors are very experienced… the cast is kind of divided between parents and children, and the people playing the parents are all very experienced - resumes as long as your arm - but have not lost their child-like willingness to be playful, which is essential.

“And the actors playing the younger characters all have great instincts and a great attitude, and when we sat down for the table read, the takeaway from everyone was ‘My god, all the young people are fabulous... this is going to be a really good show!’ was the consensus.”

Sounds pretty good, right? Ok, so he's not going to say his new TV show is going to be bad, but it's still pretty encouraging to listen to the Torchwood and Buffy veteran talk about the upcoming Marvel project in this way.
