PERTH has proved to be a hit holiday hot spot among the Deadpool, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight stars visiting for this year’s Supanova.
As well as meeting fans at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend, the pop culture gathering’s celebrity guests have quickly found themselves at home in WA, with quokka selfies, Fremantle Prison tours and fine dining all on the agenda for their short stay.
“I actually met some family here in Perth, for the first time,” Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic, who plays Colossus in Marvel’s unconventional superhero film Deadpool, said.
“It’s distant family, but they’ve lived here for like, 20 years, and it’s the first time I’ve met them actually.
“But I love it here; Perth is beautiful and totally different from anything I’ve seen.”
Kapicic, along his fellow Deadpool star Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Twilight’s Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen) and Buffy’s James Marsters (Spike), are some of the headliners at this year’s Supanova.
Now in its fifteenth year, the convention sees fans adorn their best cosplay — or costume role-play — and bask in all things pop culture, including comic books, action figures and gaming, before lining up to meet some of the biggest names from sci-fi, superhero and fantasy films or TV.
This year sees Marsters, who is also the audio books voice of cult favourite wizard Frank Dresden from The Dresden Files, bring his musical talents to the stage, performing tracks from his solo singing career.
“It was fabulous because the sound man here in Perth is excellent and I can always tell a good sound man because he gets frustrated very quickly,” the 53-year-old said following his acoustic rock show.
“A good sound man doesn’t need much time and a nervous musician doesn’t trust his sound man.
“So I’ve done it enough that I knew the attitude when I saw it and he made me sound better than I deserved to.”
Supanova continues at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10am-6pm today.
