In the 1970s and ‘80s, action-adventure and superhero comics and cartoons were at creative and commercial peaks! Superstar creators—including Jack Kirby, Gil Kane and Steve Gerber—worked in both media. Today, animator Tom Cook, who worked on popular cartoons including Superfriends, He-Man, Thundarr and The Smurfs) and writer-editor Danny Fingeroth (whose comics credits include Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers) discuss what was going on in the parallel worlds of comics and cartoons of the era, their experiences creating characters and stories, and about working with greats such as Hanna, Barbera, Lee, Claremont and and Ditko.

The nature of time and time travel are the most misunderstood topics in physics and popular culture. None of the popular scientists have it right let alone those outside of the exclusive club of PhD theoretical physicists save for research and development engineer Marshall Barnes who has the only viable time machine program in operation in the world. He is the most read writer on time and time travel at Quora.com. Marshall has written the only book on time travel that solves all the major issues, not just discusses them (see Paradox Lost: The True Geometries of Time Travel at blurb.com) and he has built the first device that is opening micro wormholes that can be scaled up - the Verdrehung Fan. He successfully presented research on it at the 2014 SpaceUp sessions of the International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles, the basis for which was subsequently echoed in New Scientist magazine via the work of Luke Butcher. Harvey Pekar, creator and writer of American Splendor comics—which inspired the 2003 Paul Giamatti movie—and through them, inspiration for a whole branch of memoir comics, who passed away in July, 2010. And this year Splendor celebrates it’s 40th anniversary since it first exploded out “from off the streets of Cleveland.” Pekar’s influence on comics is as strong today as ever. To celebrate his legacy, Jared Gardner (OSU professor and author of Projections: Comics and the History of 21st-century Storytelling) and comics historian Danny Fingeroth (The Rough Guide to Graphic Novels)—whose work has appeared in a pair of Pekar-edited anthologies—will be on hand to talk about Harvey’s work and legacy.
