3:00 – 3:45PM HIP-HOP & COMICS: CULTURES COMBINING
Since its earliest days, Hip-Hop culture has been linked to comic books: graffiti and album covers utilize superhero imagery, rappers adopt secret identities and grandiose aliases, artists use the vocabulary of comics to help forge a new urban culture. Comics creators have responded in kind, using elements of Hip-Hop to give grounding to street-level storytelling, incorporating graffiti techniques into logo design and art styles, and using rap lyrics for context and content. Both forms thrive on excitement and energy, inspire passionate fanbases, and have risen from modest beginnings to achieve global recognition. Patrick Reed, editor of Depth of Field Magazine, brings together musical visionaries, visual artists, and other special guests from the comic and music industries to celebrate the possibilities in combining these worlds, discuss how forms have intersected over the last four decades, and veiw ahead toward the future. (OUTDOOR STAGE)

The cover page. No other aspect of a single issue comic is as polarizing as the cover page. It has a tough job. To quickly catch the eye amongst a wall of competing issues, hold the viewer’s attention and then pitch that reader on the rest of the book. So what makes a good cover? How much work needs to be put in? And why is it so difficult to create? Discover the answers from Eisner Award Hall of Famer Neil Adams (Batman; Green Lantern; Green Arrow; X-Men; Superman; The Avengers) as he breaks down the cover page using his own The Walking Dead Variant Cover as an example. Don’t miss out! (ROOM MEZZANINE)
